Charlotte Brown loved Baptist Cancer Services. During her treatment for breast cancer, she grew close to the patients and staff around her. It was Charlotte's affection for Baptist, and the quality of care she experienced, that led her husband, Jack, to Baptist after his own cancer diagnosis.
Friends of Jack knew he was quite the car enthusiast. He also wanted to leave a mark that would help the many people he came to love through his own journey at Baptist's Hederman Cancer Center. Through creative gift planning, Jack devised a way to pair the two passions together. His ultimate gift was to auction his 1932 Ford Roadster to benefit the Baptist Health Foundation. It was a simple, yet meaningful, idea.
Jack Brown's lasting legacy will be realized on March 22nd when his 1932 Ford Roadster will be auctioned at the 36th Annual Dixie Rod Run, at Trustmark Park in Pearl, at 2:00 PM. Proceeds from the auction will go to assist patients being treated at Baptist's Hederman Cancer Center.
Baptist Health Foundation, the philanthropic division of Baptist Health Systems, has donated a van to Hope House of Hospitality. The van will be used to transport patients to and from cancer treatment as well as for other transportation needs.
“The Baptist Health Foundation appreciates this opportunity to enhance our partnership with The Hope House of Hospitality,” said Baptist Chief Development Officer and Foundation President Whit Hughes. “Our team is always excited to support The Hope House, and we provide this van knowing it will help meet extremely important transportation needs of patients and their families."
Hope House is a Christian ministry that provides a “home away from home” for seriously ill patients. Most of the guests have cancer and are referred to the home by hospital social workers. Patients come from throughout the state to receive outpatient chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The guests typically stay six to eight weeks. Hope House provides lodging, food, laundry services and transportation at no cost to its guests.
“The generous donation of a van is answered prayer. We needed reliable, comfortable transportation for our guests to their treatments. We are thrilled by this gift. ‘Thank you’ just doesn't seem like enough to say,” added Hope House of Hospitality Board Member Paige Stowe.
