The Board of Trustees of Mississippi Baptist Health Systems is pleased to announce that Kurt W. Metzner will become interim Chief Executive Officer of the system, beginning Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Mr. Metzner served as CEO of the health system from 1997 until 2011 when he retired. Mr. Metzner will serve until the new CEO is chosen.
Metzner, a Minneapolis, Minnesota native, came to Baptist in 1997 from Horizon Healthcare Inc. in Wisconsin. At Horizon Healthcare, which operates in metropolitan Milwaukee and eastern Wisconsin, Metzner was responsible for day-to-day operations. Under his direction, the system developed a comprehensive approach to healthcare delivery and has linked physicians and other providers into a fully-operational, integrated delivery system.
Previously, Metzner has served as senior vice president of Dennis R. Moser and Associates of Kingwood, Texas; president and chief operating officer for Baptist Hospitals and Health Systems in Phoenix, Arizona; senior vice president of Fairview Hospitals and Healthcare System in Minneapolis; and senior consultant for the consulting firm of Hamilton/KSA in Minneapolis.
Metzner holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from the University of Minnesota. He is a diplomate with the American College of Healthcare Executives, and serves on a number of national organizations, including the Council on Systems of the American Hospital Association, the Council of Community Hospitals and the American Academy of Medical Administrators.
