Baptist Medical Center Attala hosted a community open house on June 29, 2015, at 10:30 am at 220 Highway 12 West in Kosciusko, Miss. The event was an opportunity for the community members, employees, physicians and officials from Baptist Health Systems to meet and greet each other.
On June 1, 2015, Baptist Health Systems in Jackson and the Board of Supervisors of Attala County finalized an agreement under which Baptist would operate Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. The name of the hospital was changed to Baptist Medical Center Attala.
Baptist Health Systems CEO Chris Anderson added, “Having this open house will give us an opportunity to be visible to the community and let them now we are committed to the mission of providing the highest quality healthcare guided by our Christian faith. Everyone who is a part of the Baptist family looks forward to working with the outstanding team of physicians, nurses and employees in providing exceptional healthcare services to the residents of this community.”
Troy Hodges, president of the Board of Supervisors of Attala County, said “After months of negotiation, we are proud to welcome Baptist to our community. We applaud their commitment to the citizens of Attala County and will offer them our full support in building on the outstanding medical community and services we currently have in Kosciusko.”
As part of Baptist’s long-term mission and vision to offer affordable and accessible healthcare, Baptist will operate the Montfort Jones facility as a Critical Access Hospital and will continue to provide the core services currently offered in the facility. By definition, a Critical Access Hospital must be no larger than 25 beds and be located in a rural area no closer than 35 miles from another hospital. While the focus on healthcare in Kosciusko is to ensure the community has access to a range of acute hospital services, Baptist Medical Center in Jackson will serve as a referral hospital for specialties not offered in a critical access hospital setting.
Baptist Medical Center in Jackson offers patient care in multiple medical specialties, including cardiovascular, comprehensive women’s health services, gastrointestinal, vascular surgery, oncology services and a network of primary care clinics. Additionally, according to Healthgrades, no other hospital in the Jackson, Miss. area has more 5-Star Ratings than Baptist in 2015.
