Baptist Cancer Services started off October breast cancer activities by participating in a press conference for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. For the sixth year, Baptist is the flagship sponsor for the event, which will take place on October 31, 2015.
And this is just the start of a full month of events for women to learn from physicians and other breast cancer professionals. For starters, on Friday, October 2, 2015, WLBT and the Power of Pink sponsors will gather at our Hederman Cancer Center to officially kick off breast cancer awareness month. This is a come-and-go event from 9am until 2pm. Breast Health Patient Navigator Adrienne Russell, RN, MSN, CBPN-IC.A, will provide a free comprehensive overview of breast health at noon. Among other things, this lunchtime seminar will include instruction on breast self-exams.
Baptist spokesman Robby Channell said, "This is the seventh year we have partnered with WLBT for the Power of Pink to get the word out regarding the importance of talking to your healthcare provider about your breast health. Know your risk factors, and if you are 40, talk to your doctor about getting your mammogram."
During the October 2 event, Citizens National Bank (Member FDIC) will be on hand to help give out breast health information during the event. WLBT will be on hand with the five Power of Pink cars provided by the Gray-Daniels Auto Family.
One new item this year, is a free booklet called Baptist's Girl Friend's Guide to Breast Cancer. Plus, fund for the girls will once again be part of the Power of Pink seeking for people to help make donations to help fight breast cancer.
