Approximately 1700 babies are born annual at Baptist. Sometimes, specific specialized care for infants is needed in certain cases. The Birthplace at Baptist includes a 32-bed, Level III, state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The NICU is staffed by board certified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, NICU certified nurses as well as certified respiratory therapists. Premature babies or babies with an illness are placed in the NICU at Baptist.
“The birth of a premature infant is a journey few understand unless they are faced with the overwhelming experience,” said Julie Prisock MSN, RNC-OB, Baptist’s NICU and Pediatrics nurse manager.
Each year, Baptist hosts a reunion for entire families, which provides an opportunity for Baptist caregivers to reconnect with former patients and their families. This year, approximately 150 people attended the NICU Reunion. There was face painting, a magician, food, and various festive booths such as fishing, bean bag tossing and dress-up.
