Baptist celebrated the opening of its newest fitness facility, Downtown Fitness, Powered by Baptist Health Systems with a ribbon cutting ceremony on December 19, 2017. The facility is located at 100 East Capitol Street in Suite 107 in Jackson, Miss.
This fall, the facility opened to provide fitness, health and wellness programs to downtown Jackson. Chris Baker serves as the executive director of Downtown Fitness. Baker has more than 20 years of experience in the fitness facility industry and holds numerous fitness certifications and is excited to bring a health and wellness program to the downtown Jackson area.
“I’m excited to be a part of this endeavor in the heart of downtown Jackson,” Baker said. “It is important to not ever lose touch with the reason our members are there and what they need from their facility. I believe staying involved with our members’ workouts helps me do that.”
With approximately 17,000 square feet of space, Downtown Fitness, Powered by Baptist Health Systems, boasts the latest in exercise equipment, group exercise classes, and executive-style locker rooms. The center offers a total body toning boot camp, indoor cycling, low-impact/high-output cardio machines complete with integrated TVs, total body training selectorized strength machines, and a comprehensive free-weight training area.
“We are excited to continue our commitment of providing quality health care to the city of Jackson,” said Baptist Executive Director of Mississippi Marketing and Business Development Mike Stevens. “Along with Baptist’s health care expertise, Chris has the knowledge, enthusiasm and energy needed to help coach downtown businesses and their employees with a healthy lifestyle journey.”
This is one of two facilities Baptist has opened in downtown Jackson this fall. Baptist established a new regional business office in the Regions Plaza building to centralize physician billing, scheduling and similar services for nine of Baptist Memorial’s 10 Mississippi hospitals employing approximately 250 people.
On May 1, 2017, Mississippi Baptist Health Systems signed a shared mission agreement with Baptist Memorial Health Care, which is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. Baptist Memorial is the largest not-for-profit health care provider in the Mid-South with hospitals in Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi. As a result of the shared mission agreement, Baptist Memorial became Mississippi’s fourth largest employer and the largest health care system in the state. Baptist Memorial hospitals offer patients in rural and urban areas access to the region’s largest network of doctors and specialists, as well as access to Epic―one of the country’s most sophisticated electronic health record systems.
