January is just a couple weeks away and many have found that they have put their gym time on the backburner. So, getting back to working out will surely be on the "resolution list." This year; however, we want to actually stick with your workout routine. Two tips will help you do just that: (1.) Get started ASAP and (2.) Keep it up all year.

These seem to be no brainers, but there is no need to over complicate things. Getting started ASAP is important because the longer you put things off the less of a priority working out will become. In getting started there should be some things you need to consider and steps that you should take:
First you need to become educated on your workout program. This can be done in a few ways. Reading up and using your favorite search engine to find out all that you can will help you build confidence in the program that you will start. You could and should also consult a professional. Trainers and specialists are more than willing to help provide direction and give out good advice to people who want to learn about getting better in the gym.

Next you should sign up. Whether you join a gym, build your own gym, or buy a workout program on DVD you should go ahead and get things going. Once you know what you want to do and have your plan set then you should get things going immediately while you're still excited about this priority.

Although this step is optional I always advise hiring a personal trainer. A good personal trainer will be knowledgeable and will only improve your success. Even if you are yourself knowledgeable a trainer can always add more insight, perspective, and/or specifics that will better your progress. That may include tougher workouts, specific training modifications on technique and form, or specific consultation advice that may or may not include a program specifically designed to help you reach your goals. Any of these additions will help speed up the results you would get on your own.

And, the second tip to keep it up is going to be just as important as getting started. You have to remain consistent to make things work best for you. The way that you remain consistent is to make things as easy as possible for you to maintain the effective routine that you have begun. A few things to remember:

You have to know your schedule. Once you know what you have to do throughout your day you will know where your workouts fit in.

Then you have to know yourself. You have to know that if you’re not a morning person then a 5 am workout may be hard for you to commit to. Or you may have a very stressful and taxing job that will often have you talk yourself out of that evening workout once you get off.

Once you have that figured out then you must prepare accordingly. Have your gym bag ready, make sure you have eaten enough throughout the day, and get enough rest/sleep to be able to make your workouts easier to do and easier to keep committing to.

Remember to get started ASAP and keep it up. Then, you'll do great in the upcoming year.
