El objetivo del tratamiento para pérdida auditiva es mejorar la audición lo más posible. Los tipos de tratamiento usados dependen del tipo de pérdida auditiva y la causa subyacente. La pérdida auditiva conductiva con frecuencia puede ser corregida mediante tratamiento médico o quirúrgico. La mayoría de tipos de pérdida auditiva sensorineural son permanentes y no se pueden corregir médicamente o quirúrgicamente, pero la audición puede mejorar con auxiliares auditivos y aparatos de asistencia. Menos frecuentemente, la pérdida auditiva sensorineural repentina se puede tratar con esteroides en alta dosis.
