El objetivo del tratamiento es controlar o prevenir los ataques epilépticos. El tratamiento es total o parcialmente exitoso aproximadamente en el 80% de pacientes. Por lo general, los medicamentos son la manera más exitosa para tratar y controlar la epilepsia. También se usan cambios en el estilo de vida y otros tratamientos. En casos severos, se podría requerir de cirugía.
