Roma Morris

Nominated by her daughter Anna Morris

Anna says, “We were in Wal-Mart and this little boy kept following us around. Everywhere we went he was there too. We finally checked out and out he and his mom came. The little boy tugged on his mom’s coat tail and said, ‘Mom Mom, that is Ms. Morris, she taught me to read! I saw my mom become a teacher and each day, I saw her take such special care of so many children teaching them the basics of a strong educational foundation. Now I see those same students at college and many receiving special awards. I know that my mom mentored them and made them feel special just like she makes me feel special every day. My Mom is now an elementary school principal. I know that many days, my mom would have a child in her office and she would be teaching him/her because he was put out of class. My mom could see the potential in that child. Today I see my mom graduating with her PhD in May 2005. She has led Casey Elementary School to the Mississippi Arts Commission Model School Status. I know she loves every one of her kids. And to her, they are all her kids.”
