The 16th Annual Cyclists Curing Cancer Century Ride was held Saturday, September 9, 2017. Approximately 400 riders attended the event, which helps raise funds for Baptist Cancer Services.
The Baptist Health Foundation organizes the event each year. Funds raised are earmarked to support the upkeep of the cancer center's serenity garden. The Baptist Health Foundation also provides assistance to fund the Cancer Nurse Navigator position.
The century ride was original organized with a goal to fund the creation of a Serenity Garden at Baptist’s Hederman Cancer Center and establish ongoing funding for the garden. The funds raised also support other programs for Baptist Cancer Services.
The Serenity Garden, completed in October 2006, offers patients and their family members a place for quiet and calm reflection. Located beside the Hederman Cancer Center, the Serenity Garden has winding pathways leading to a water display and an arbor where patients and loved ones can enjoy the sounds of water trickling down the three-tiered fountain.
The ride stretches along the beautiful, historic Natchez Trace with themed rest stops throughout the journey.
