Learning how to care for your baby begins before you ever conceive, and goes on throughout your pregnancy, labor, delivery and beyond. Baptist for Women offers women comprehensive learning opportunities at every stage.
If you are considering having a baby, our Healthy Life podcast series offers great preconception education. Episodes about preconception care include "The Journey of Pregnancy: Preconception Care." You can listen to this episode in the player on this page.
When you preadmit at Baptist before your 27th week of pregnancy, you will have priority registration for all the classes available from the Birthplace. These classes cover everything from types of anesthesia during delivery to diapering to breastfeeding. By attending our childbirth classes, you can learn what to expect for normal and C-section deliveries.
After you give birth, the nurses on the Mother/Baby Unit will assist you with questions you may have about taking care of your baby. These nurses will go over either breast or bottle-feeding instructions, depending on the mother's preference, and a range of safety instructions. Before you leave the hospital with your baby, you will get additional instructions on how to take care of yourself as well as your new infant. Our nursing staff wants to help you feel confident that you have the information and skills you need to care for yourself and your baby before you go home.
