This screening detects calcium deposits in coronary arteries. The presence of calcium deposits correlates directly to coronary plaque and risk of coronary disease.
No preparation is required for this test. Please avoid wearing shirts with metal buttons or snaps. Ladies should avoid wearing underwire bras. Radiation is involved in this screening. If you could be pregnant, this test is not recommended. People with coronary artery stents, pacemakers, or metal in the left side of the chest from previous surgery are excluded from this screening.

The Heart Select Screening is done in Outpatient Radiology in the Colonnades medical office building. A radiologic technologist will perform the CT scan. The test will take about 30 minutes from the time you arrive. When you are finished, the technologist will hand off your scan to cardiologists on staff at Baptist to evaluate.
Physicians who review results in the Heart Select screening program are board certified cardiologists at Baptist Medical Center. Cardiologists have specialized training in the care of patients with heart and vascular diseases. When our team has completed evaluation of your screening, they will provide a report explaining your results. They will also make recommendations for any needed follow-up.

Cardiologists provide your report to nurses and other professional staff at the Baptist Health Line. They will mail your completed screening report to you, usually in about three weeks. If your results indicate a need for immediate follow up, a nurse from the Baptist Health Line will call you at the telephone number you provided. If you have questions about your results, or if you need help scheduling recommended follow up screenings, simply call the Baptist Health Line. They can answer questions and help you with your next steps.
1. Specific health criteria apply for all screenings. Participants will be asked qualifying information during registration.
2. Screening packages are available by appointment and are evaluated by Baptist nurses and physicians.
3. Reports may be sent to you and the physician of your choice.
4. Insurance is not filed for most* screening packages. Payment is through cash or check at Baptist Medical Center. Payment at Baptist Medical Clinic locations includes cash, check or debit / credit cards.* Insurance is filed for the Lung Select LDCT screening.
