Baptist Nutrition and Bariatric Center, part of Baptist Health Systems, offers a comprehensive diabetes program certified by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). We are also the only program in the state that holds the Joint Commission Certification for Outpatient Diabetes Management.
Our programs are individualized based on the needs of the patient. We work with our patients and referring physicians to develop a treatment plan that allows our patients to self manage their disease and improve their health. Our dedicated team of professionals provides self-management training, behavioral modification, nutrition counseling and medication management to help people with diabetes achieve better glucose control and improve their health and vitality.

This program is designed to help individuals understand diabetes and learn simple strategies to gain control of their condition by focusing on medication, monitoring, diet and exercise.
This is an excellent option if you have been told that you have pre-diabetes. Pre-diabetes is when an individual has higher than normal blood sugar readings, but the readings are not high enough to diagnose the individual with type 2 diabetes. Studies have indicated that if a patient with pre-diabetes does not make healthy changes in their weight, eating habits, and physical activity level they will likely develop diabetes in the next 5 years.
Our physician and clinical pharmacist can provide a comprehensive review of an individual’s diabetes regimen. Working with your physician we can make changes to your medications to optimize treatment. We will explain in detail any changes, and discusses ways to make it easier to stick to the prescribed program.
This is an excellent service for individuals on multiple blood glucose lowering meds and those that are finding it difficult to obtain good control.
This program combines individual and group sessions that are designed to go beyond the basic understanding of self-management skills. We will work with you to improve glucose control through medication management, nutrition and physical activity. We will teach you multiple skills to self-manage you condition and optimize your overall health.
This is an excellent program for Newly Diagnosed Diabetic Patients or those that have never had formal counseling.
Gestational Diabetes is a type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. In order to keep the mother and baby healthy it is important to maintain good control of blood sugar levels during pregnancy. Expectant mothers with gestational diabetes will meet one-on-one with a Registered Dietitian and are taught the skills needed to optimize blood sugars to maintain good health for mother and baby. Our staff includes a certified insulin pump trainer who works with patients for pump starts, pump trouble-shooting, and continuous glucose monitoring.
We offer several different programs that promote weight loss. Our structured, medically monitored weight loss programs include individualized meal plans and provide people with diabetes the skills they need to achieve and maintain a healthier weight.
One-on-one counseling is available for health conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, kidney disease, gastrointestinal disease, anorexia and bulimia.
