Low Fat, Low Cholesterol Diet

General Guidelines

Eat a variety of foods including fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Limit intake of fat and cholesterol , especially saturated fat. (Saturated fats are generally the fats from animal products.)

Bake, broil, boil, roast or grill meats rather than fry or saute.

Choose:

  • Lean meats - round, sirloin, chuck, loin
  • Poultry without skin
  • Fish/shellfish
  • Lean luncheon meats
  • Low-fat cheese/fat-free milk

Avoid:

  • Fatty meats - ribs, t-bone, sausage, bacon
  • Fried foods
  • Processed meats
  • Regular cheeses/whole milk

Limit egg yolks to 4 per week

Incorporate soy into diet (soy nuts, soy milk, soy cheese)
