The Birthplace at Baptist includes a 32-bed, Level III, state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The NICU is staffed by board certified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, NICU certified nurses as well as certified respiratory therapists. Our staff provides high level care for your baby in a family-centered environment.

Program distinctives include:

  • Use of the latest in developmental equipment
  • Dedicated certified occupational therapist
  • Individual private rooms for stepdown babies
  • Liberal visitation policy
  • Bedside breast pump available for mothers who choose to breastfeed
  • Kangaroo care with infants and parents. Allows skin-to-skin contact between parent and infant for even the tiniest of preemies
  • Infant CPR provided to parents before discharge
  • A rooming-in room is available the night before discharge
  • Isolation room available in unit if needed
  • Discharge planning nurse to assist with needs prior to discharge
  • Pediatric ophthalmologist to monitor infant progress. Ability to perform laser surgery at bedside if needed
  • Pediatric subspecialists available for consultation, including cardiology and gastroenterology
